Sodium Formate is also known as Formic Acid Sodium Salt. The crystal contains two crystal water, so it is also known as Sodium Formate Dihydrate, Sodium Formate Dihydrate and Sodium Formate Hydrate. Sodium Formate is one of the simplest organic carboxylate, which is white crystal or powder with a slight smell of Formic Acid. Slightly deliquescent and hygroscopic. It is soluble in about 1.3 phr water and glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol and octanol, and insoluble in ether. Its aqueous solution is alkaline. When heated, Sodium Formate decomposes into Hydrogen and Sodium Oxalate, and then forms Sodium Carbonate.
Application:
(1) Production of Formic Acid from Sodium Formate
(2) producing Oxalic Acid with Sodium Formate
(3) Sodium Formate is used to produce Sodium Hydrosulfite
(4) Sodium Formate as oil drilling fluid
(5) Other uses of Sodium Formate: It is used as environmentally friendly snow melting agent, gold ore refining, etc
